Zentri, a leading secure IoT SaaS platform provider, today announced the release of ZentriOS 3.0, the operating system designed to power resource constrained IoT edge devices that fuels Zentri’s Secure Connected Product Platform.
Zentri enables product companies to transform their single transaction business models into high value, recurring revenue businesses with a premium connected product portfolio. A critical element in that transformation is the focus on edge device security as the foundation of trust in connected products. ZentriOS secures IoT edge devices without additional developer burden allowing product companies to build and take connected devices to market rapidly. By running ZentriOS, available on any ARM Cortex® based microprocessor, devices are individualized with a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID), data and software images are secured with a per-device encryption key, and enterprise grade device management is provided with a per-device X.509 digital certificate signed per-company.
In the newest release, ZentriOS adds support for Ethernet connected devices used in industries that require high levels of deterministic connectivity performance and for cellular connected devices in industries such as asset management and automotive. Customer demand drove new support in ZentriOS 3.0 for out of the box cloud connectivity via MQTT, a standard way to connect to Amazon’s AWS IoT, IBM BlueMix IoT, and AMQP for Microsoft Azure. ZentriOS elevates the security posture when connecting to any cloud service by providing APIs for server verification of clients through standard TLS certificates.
ZentriOS powered devices work seamlessly with Zentri Device Management Service (DMS). This empowers developers and product managers to manage product features and applications, securely upgrade firmware and embedded apps, and monitor in-market product status. The new, secure, lightweight embedded apps can be written in C utilizing the ZentriOS SDK and native API and distributed through the DMS to securely extend per-product functionality. The embedded apps run the same secure connectivity operating system across multiple product lines which reduces the threat surface. ZentriOS can run alongside another operating system (OS) or be the primary OS affording product companies immense design flexibility.
The new release builds on unique features such as the availability of direct connectivity to the IoT edge device and a fully programmable web server. In situations ranging from loss of internet connectivity to congested wireless networks, developers, field service engineers and end users can still connect to the device using the soft access point (softAP) to setup and manage the device using a web browser or native mobile apps on iOS and Android.
